2015 elections: NSCDC to deploy sniffer dogs nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will deploy sniffer dogs during the 2015 general elections.

A statement issued on Monday in Abuja quoted Dr Ade Abolurin, the NSCDC Commandant General, as directing the Kernel Unit of the Corps to speed up the training of sniffer dogs and dog handlers for deployment ahead of the elections.

The statement signed by Mr Okeh Emmanuel, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, said: “The sniffer dogs are to be deployed to strategic places, including the borders and areas that could serve as exit routes for mischief makers.’’

It also called on the citizenry to join hands with government to address the security challenges facing the nation.“It should be seen as a collective responsibility. Security personnel are not magicians.

Therefore, for the challenges to be addressed, the populace should pass adequate information to security agencies.

“We are faced with a lot of challenges, and based on the critical nature of the society every piece of information counts. “Success can only be recorded if everyone is security conscious, and sensitive to things happening within the environment,’’ it said. (NAN)
