The people of Enugu are thanking God for the way He inspired their leaders to adopt a process that promotes peace, brotherhood and maturity. The consensus option is democratic in the sense that overwhelming majority of the caucus supported it. They have always met and taken decisions for the party and we have always accepted it. And Senator Eze has always been part of this process too. Why is it suddenly evil? Is it because he was not chosen?

Counting the benefits of this action can only be more practical when you put into perspective all the rancor and wrangling that usually characterize elections in Nigeria Enugu people would be spared of. A people that speak with one mind is a people that stay together. Enugu leaders have clearly shown this much desire and nobody, no matter his personal ambition, should rock the boat.

Ugwuany is clearly loved and highly accepted by the people. The truth is that the Governor did not ram him down the throat of the stakeholders. He widely consulted and took all things into consideration before settling for his choice. There was a clear unanimity here, otherwise, the caliber of people involved, had Ugwuanyi not really been a natural consensus, had the capacity to effectively disagree. Besides, the Governor knew men that loves power and are overtly ambitious are not usually the best custodians of a people's destiny as they always seek power for personal glory and other mundane reasons.

Ugwuanyi was never over ambitious, neither was he given to vainglory. He is a typical Wawa and Nsukka man. Meek, humble, gentle, hardworking, contented and always in the service of others. This is the kind of person we want. A philanthropist humanist who sees himself as an agent of advancement to his society. Ugwuanyi is as amiable as he is disarming. Both the high and the lowly; the rich and the poor find his company so easy to engage. He has never forgotten who he was and who he always wants to be.

Governor Chime has said it all. Nobody is barred from contesting. Nobody is being stopped from spending his money in pursuit of his ambition. After all, this is how 'our' money gets to reach us, the lowly forgotten lot, only remembered at election times. However, people need to be rounded characters that shape with events in our current political real life narrative. But, some would be like Okonkwo who stubbornly fails to move along with the inexorable forces of change that has caught up with his Umuofia and is tragically consumed.

Abuja can have their pacifist say, but our people who have spoken, will eventually have their way. After all, when the chips are down, everyone, including President Jonathan will go to his place to vote. They will all be concerned with how to deliver their polling units, ward, Local Government and state to bother about Sullivan and his fellow wise party leaders in Enugu that have delivered the state to PDP on a golden platter.
