The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that he has not been informed of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Rivers state or why the President is even coming to the state.

Governor Wike who maintained that there is no security situation in the state to warrant the president’s visit on that guise, however said the president is welcomed to the state especially to complete some projects.

Wike also said the president could be visiting to see if he could revive his All Progressive Congress, APC, party which he said is dead in the state.

Governor Wike however said that no matter what the president does to his party in Rivers, that except Jesus Christ intervenes, that the party will never come back to life again in the state.

The Governor gave the statement on Thursday while Flagging off the reconstruction of Egbelu Street and construction of link roads in East-West in Rumuodara, Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

According to him, “I hear they say that the President is coming to our state. I have not been told the President is coming and why he is coming. He has the right to come to any state.

“Maybe the President is coming to make sure that he will improve the fortunes of the APC that is dead in Rivers State.

“Apart from Jesus Christ, we don’t know of anyone who has risen a dead thing. APC is a dead party in Rivers State. No matter how you fast and pray, it will never wake up.”

Recall that Rivers State is among the listed states President Buhari has planned to tour following the recent spate of killings. Other states are Benue, Taraba and Plateau.

However, Governor Wike urged the Rivers people not to be bordered that President Buhari is visiting the state.

According to him, “Let nobody bother his or herself that the President is coming for security reasons. We don’t have security challenges in the state.

“We have never had herdsmen killings or crisis in the state, except when some criminals tried to disrupt the peace and they were checked. We resolved that challenge.”

Governor Wike however said that if President Buhari is visiting Rivers state because of Kidnappers and armed robbers, then he should visit all the 36 states of the federation because, according to him, there is no state in Nigeria where kidnappers and armed robbers don’t operate.

He, however, added that President Buhari is welcomed to the state which produces the wealth that caters for the entire country, adding that President Buhari could use the opportunity to complete some projects in the state.

According to him, “Since the administration has abandoned Rivers State for three years, this visit may be a blessing in disguise. The President may use the visit to complete the Port Harcourt International Airport, the neglected East-West road, the neglected seaports and the rejected Port Harcourt-Aba road”. – Vanguard.
