The son to the former Military Head of State, late General Sanni Abacha, Mohammed Abacha, and frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s governorship aspirant in Kano State is optimistic that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) will lose in 2015 general elections.
He made this assertions while fielding questions from State House correspondents, after a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Villa on Friday.
The son of former maximum ruler expressed optimism that the state,which was under the control of the PDP, will still maintain the status quo as the dominant party in the state.
Abacha said he played a pivotal role in the emergence of the incumbent governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwanso, in 2011 when his defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) denied him the opportunity to contest the election.
According to him, he remains the candidate to beat even as he dismissed the insinuation that the APC’s candidate and the Deputy Governor of the state, Abdullai Umar Ganduje, could leverage on the power of incumbency to win the governorship election.
“If I was not a good candidate, I wouldn’t give anybody support. We are hopeful; I wouldn’t want to say too much. I said it before that it was a PDP state; it was a PDP ticket. It was taken or converted or even stolen; whatever you want to call it, so be it. The chances of the PDP are still bright,” he said.
On the possibility of beating his fathers’s predecessor’s son, Risqua Murtala, to the game, he said the choice of who rules the state lies with the people, but added that he stands a better chance.
