“Sunday morning, I received a petition fromAPC demanding for the cancellation & rescheduling of elections”- Jega

“I circulated this memo to the Comm. We reviewed it and set up a 3 man Cttee to Rivers & returned this morning w their observations”- Jega

“There were a no. of points as to why the Comm should cancel/reschedule elections: 1)No elections 2)No result sheets 3)Subst. of officials”

“We cannot establish any cancellation or substitution of results and we sent a list of collation officers to the state”-Jega

“Officials fail to show up to work for several reasons and it is up to the REC to substitute from the pool of officials they have”- Jega

“We do not believe the allegations are substantial enough to require the cancellation/rescheduling of the elections in Rivers”- Jega

“The decison of the Comm is that we will take the results of the elections in Rivers state”- Jega

“We have taken measures to make sure that reoccurrences do not occur in the future”- Jega

Meanwhile, Jega has dismissed the accusation of bias levelled against him by the Peoples Democratic Party, stressing that the party did not follow the right channel of communication in submitting its petition.

He argued that the petition was given to his Personal Assistant instead of the Secretary to the Commission.

He also claimed ignorance of the election result alleged paraded by the APC.

The collation of result has resumed.

It will be recalled that the representative of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Presidential Collation Centre, Mr. Godday Orubebe accused the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attaihiru Jega of biasover his failure to investigate the party protest letter on the election in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa
