The Enugu State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has described the victory of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the April 11, 2015 poll as the will of God and a prayer answered for the continued peace and development of the state.

The Christian Body made its position known during a solidarity visit to the governor-elect, Hon. Ugwuanyi in Enugu to thank God for his victory, congratulate him and offer special prayers for him and his running mate, the Deputy Governor-Elect, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo.

Speaking on behalf of the Christian community in the state, the State Chairman of CAN, Bishop Christian C. Obiefuna expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the gift of Ugwuanyi to the state and his humble background, vision and physical and spiritual commitment to the things of God, which he revealed was the secret behind his popularity and acceptance by the people and God.

He noted with delight that their ceaseless prayers for God to give Enugu State a leader that will have a listening ear, fear Him, cater for the common man and strive to bring meaningful development to the state in all strata of governance, was answered in the emergence of Ugwuanyi as the next governor of the state.

“We are here to thank God and appreciate him (Ugwuanyi) and also ask God to continue working in him that Enugu State may have a godly face in his reign. Today, God answered our prayers in Ugwuanyi and we are glad for this” said Obiefuna.

CAN also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies for their professionalism in conducting transparent, peaceful and credible elections in the state in particular and the nation in general.

In his response, Ugwuanyi thanked members of CAN for their solidarity, prayers and support during the period of his campaign and election and assured them of his resolve to fulfill his campaign promises and serve the state with the fear of God for the overall interest of the people.

He urged them to continue to pray for him and the incoming administration to succeed and move the state forward.

Other members of CAN who were present at the visit includes: the Vice Chairman of CAN, Rev. Chris Odo, the Secretary, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa, Most Rev. Bishop C.V.C Onaga of Catholic Diocese of Enugu (represented by Rev. Fr. Donatus Onuigbo), Ven. Jonathan  Agbo, leader of the delegation of the Anglican Communion,  Bishop Obi Onubogu of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Enugu (represented by Rev. Dan Nzenwata), Archbishop A.A Nwaodika of Throne of Grace Cathedral, Enugu, Bishop G. C Nnaji of Revival Time Evangelical Ministry, Enugu  and a host of other ordained men of God.
