Gov. Ugwuanyi inaugurates new Enugu Universal Basic Education Board

The newly-reconstituted board of Enugu State Universal Basic Education
Board (ESUBEB) was yesterday inaugurated by the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The new board is made up of Chief Ikeji Asogwa who is the chairman,
while Mrs Rose Chiama is the secretary. Other members include, Elder
David Ajah, Member one, Chief Dr Sally Adigwu, Member two, Mrs
Ekwutosi Ngwu, Member three, Mrs Benadine Ezeugwu, Member four, Hon
Godwin Ezeja Chuka, ex officio member representing Enugu North, Mrs
Nkiru Ogbodo, representing Enugu East, Mr. Joseph Ani representing
Enugu West, Surveyor Mrs Juliet Nkem Oloto, representing the State
Women Group.
Others  who the governor hinted will later join the Board include a
member to be drawn from the state wing of the Nigeria Union of
Teachers and a member of the Federal Ministry of Education,
Inspectorate Division.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Board, Governor Ugwuanyi noted
that the reconstitution was  pursuant to  section eight, subsection
two of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Law, 2010.
He observed that the initiative was part of the measures being
undertaken by his government to fulfill the earlier commitment made on
resumption of office to raise the standard and quality of education in
Enugu State to an enviable standard by conducting a thorough review of
the operations and administration of the various establishments in the
education sector as well as upgrading of infrastructure facilities in
schools.
Governor Ugwuanyi charged members of the board to apply themselves to
the task of improving primary education in the state as well
instilling in the teachers and other workers a new sense of
discipline, diligence and responsibility that should reflect in the
performance and character of their pupils.
The members, he also stated, must oversee the repositioning of the
primary schools in the state through the provision of relevant
infrastructure and teaching tools, while driving the current efforts
of government to renovate, rehabilitate and re-equip the schools to
enhance learning.
Responding on behalf of the other members of the Board, the chairman
Chief Ikeji  Asogwa thanked the Governor for the opportunity given
them to serve the state, and assured that they will not fail in the
assignment .
He pledged their commitment and dedication to duty and called on the
governor to always avail them of his wise counsel.
