Bye-elections: APC releases names of cleared aspirants for Lagos, Imo, Plateau, five others

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has released the names of cleared aspirants seeking to contest in the September 3 primary election ahead of the October 31, 2020, concurrent legislative by-elections scheduled to be conducted across eight states of the federation.

This was contained in a statement titled “Legislative By-Elections: APC Screening Committees Clear All Aspirants for September 3 Primary Election” and signed by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The statement read in part, “Ahead of the October 31 concurrent legislative by-elections scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the All Progressives Congress Screening Committees have cleared all aspirants who purchased expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the Party’s Primary Election scheduled for Thursday 3rd, September, 2020.

“Recall that Legislative by-elections will be conducted across eight States of the Federation as follows: Bayelsa Central Senatorial District Election, Bayelsa State, Bayelsa West Senatorial District Election, Bayelsa State, Nganzai State Constituency Borno, Borno State, Bayo State Constituency, Borno State.

“Others are Cross River North Senatorial District, Cross River State, Obudu State Constituency, Cross River State, Imo North Senatorial District, Imo State, Lagos East Senatorial District, Lagos State, Kosofe II State Constituency, Lagos State, Plateau South Senatorial District, Plateau State, Bakura State Constituency, Zamfara State and Ibaji State Constituency, Kogi State.”

A breakdown of the list of those cleared shows that only one person, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru purchased and submitted forms to contest for the Lagos East senatorial ticket.

Eleven persons were cleared to contest for the sole APC ticket for Imo North senatorial district, five persons were given the nod to contest in Cross River north senatorial district.

Three persons were cleared to contest for the party’s ticket in Bayelsa West senatorial district while five persons will be slugging it out for the ticket in Bayelsa Central senatorial district. Five persons were also cleared for the Plateau South senatorial district ticket race.

For state constituencies, only one person who paid for the forms was cleared for Kosofe II state constituency, Lagos State, only one person was also cleared for Obudu state constituency of Cross River State. One person each was cleared to contest for the APC ticket for the Ngazi and Bayo state constituencies of Borno State.

In Zamfara State, four persons were cleared to contest for the Bakura state constituency while seven persons were cleared for Ibaji state constituency, Kogi State.
