President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) and 25 others to raise funds to support victims of the boko Haram insurgency.
In a statement issued Monday evening by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, he said in the President’s continued commitment to scale up support for victims of insurgency and terror attacks nationwide, he has “constituted a Committee on Victims Support Fund to mobilize resources and administer appropriate support to victims of insurgency and Boko Haram terror activities all over the country.”
The statement signed by the SGF said the composition of the membership as approved by the President include: Generaal Danjuma who is the Chairman, to be assited by Mr. Fola Adeola, while the SGF office would be the secretariat.
Other members of the Committee include: Jim Ovia, Mohammed Indimi, Wale Tinubu, Folorunsho Alakija, Sani Dauda, Air Vice Marshal Tony Omenyi to represent Defence Headquarters and Air Vice Marshal Tony Omenyi, representing Defence Headquarters.
The terms of reference according to the statement are to identify sources and ways of raising sustainable funding to support victims of Boko Haram terror activities, to develop appropriate strategies for the fund raising;to ascertain the persons, communities, facilities and economic assets affected by Boko Haram terror activities and to assess and determine the appropriate support required in each case.
Others are to manage, disburse or administer support to the victims as appropriate, to address related challenges as may be appropriate; and to advise Government on other matter(s) necessary or incidental to support victims of Boko Haram terror activities.
The committee would be inaugurated on Wednesday July 16, 2014 at the State House.
