In reply to Okezie. I am done weeping. Right now, I'm angry and to think they said they wanted to scrap the ECA last year? Please, where's the audit report of how this present admin has disbursed money from the ECA thus far? How much is even in the account now????

This was exactly what Okonjo-Iweala wanted to fix with the creation of ECA. To save for future days! She put in place transparency tools such as monthly publication of the ECA dealings but our stomach infrastructure politicians are too blinded by greed to let this vision become realised. I weep for our future.

This editorial starts well, the argument for legalising the ECA is a valid one (a long time coming) but I would have expected that an editorial from a reputable newspaper like The Punch would present a balanced view of issues. On the Oshiomohle allegations against Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that the $2billion used to offset subsidy payments during Jonathan’s tenure wasn’t properly approved, one would expect an editorial to also point out that another governor (Yari of Zamfara state) came out in 2015 that the governors assented to the withdrawal.

I can recall that the chairman of the governors’ forum Abdulrasheed Yari said that the decision to withdraw $2billion for the payment of fuel subsidies was done with the approval of governors. I can’t remember Okonjo Iweala saying at any point that the approval for the withdrawal was unilaterally by the President. Okonjo Iweala was clear on this. Jonathan’s administrations never mismanaged funds from ECA.

Seriously, I wonder why The Punch keeps singing the about ECA. And, of course, there is no other evidence to back up the anti-ECA protests than the false allegation of Oshiomole against Okojo Iweala, which has been debunked repeatedly. Banking on the false claims makes me worried about the credibility of the Punch, just as that of Oshiomole and his political party have lost their credibility. Why must Okonjo Iweala be mentioned any time The Punch writes about ECA?
