Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Vincent Egechukwu Obeta said yesterday that the Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested in Lagos on Wednesday by the Department of State Security (DSS) has been granted bail by a court in Abuja.
The counsel told newsmen yesterday that Kanu was whisked away to Abuja together with three staffers of Golden Tulip Essential Hotel, Ikeja Lagos by the DSS after he was arrested at 10:45a.m; after security agents broke into all the hotel rooms in search of him.
According to Obeta, Kanu had arrived from United Kingdom (UK) at 5:35a.m and checked into the hotel not knowing that the security agents were on his trail, adding that the men, who arrested him took away his personal belongings, including his database.
Obeta also said Kanu was first taken to court yesterday where he was granted bail with a surety of N2 million and a civil servant of Grade Level 16. He insisted that the rule of law must take its course in the case of the Radio Biafra director who ran his broadcast from London.
Meanwhile, National Director of Information, Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Mr. Uchenna Madu, has condemned Kanu’s arrest describing it as an act of cowardice.
Kanu, whose voice dominated the airwaves through the radio was arrested three days after his return to Nigeria.
Reacting to the arrest, Madu, who said he was speaking for his faction of MASSOB, condemned what he termed the cowardly arrest and detention of Radio Biafra director, which he also described as part of non-violent struggle.
In a related development, Prophet Anthony Nwoko, yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration to tackle the menace of Boko Haram sect than to arrest innocent and non-violent Biafran members. He also called for Kanu’s immediate release.
Nwoko, while reacting to the arrest of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Kanu, said Buhari was chasing shadows by going after non-violent members of Biafra leaving his task to bring lasting peace in the North East geo-political zone where thousands of Nigerians had been killed.
He said Buhari was not the Messiah that would salvage the country, stressing that the leader of the country would come from the Igbo nation despite the marginalisation and intimidation by leaders of the country.

The prophet further called on the people of South East to remain calm and look up to God for their liberation from the shackles of wicked leaders.
He said that the Federal Government should not use different stroke in the matter of Kanu, arguing that Afenifere, pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group had last week threatened to secede after the release of Chief Olu Falae by his abductors.

Obeta also pointed out that the Niger Delta militants had once threatened to secede and instead of vilifying them they got amnesty.

He therefore advised the Federal Government not to employ executive lawlessness in the case of Kanu but instead bring his group to the roundtable for dialogue. The Sun
