The following comment from the governor is depressing: “The fight against corruption in the country undermines development. It serves no useful purpose”.

All well-meaning Nigerians should support President Buhari's efforts to fight corruption. The arrest and prosecution of these judges further indicate how deep corruption is in Nigeria. Without prosecuting these judges it means that justice in Nigeria would mostly be a charade and would be up for sale to the highest bidder.

Ultimately, however, a root cause analysis of Nigeria's corruption problem would indicate the need for political restructuring of our polity in order to ensure proper accountability at all levels. The federal government alone cannot effectively fight corruption as its power to do so is easily abused in a partisan fashion. A political structure that empowers citizens to hold their leaders accountable is what is needed to more effectively fight corruption.
