Following the shocking revelation of Super Eagles goaltender, Carl Ikeme’s illness, there has been an outpouring grief and concern by the Nigerian football community.
The Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers first choice was diagnosed with leukaemia according to a statement released by the club.
In a solidarity message on Friday, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has declared a session of fasting and prayers for the sick player.
According to a release signed by its National Chairman, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, the club expressed deep concern over the 31-year old’s worsening health conditions.
“We are deeply worried about Ikeme’s illness. And it is unfortunate. that it is coming at this critical period of our football life, “Ikpea remarked.
” I believe strongly that God will heal him. Remember, when Kanu Nwankwo was diagnosed with a heart failure, the whole world thought it was the end of the world for him. But God in His infinite mercies gave him a new lease of life.
” Right now, all we can do is pray for him. And we believe that God will heal him, ” Ikpea, who also doubles as the Chairman of Lagos State Deaf Sports Association, added.
