Bandits, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, killed 15 persons in Gonan-Rogo village, in the Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday, the police have confirmed.
Before the police confirmation, the President of the Adara Development Association, Mr Awema Maisamari, had said the hersdmen invaded the village about 1am on Tuesday, killing the residents.
Maisamari said the bandits invaded the village with dangerous weapons and killed 12 persons on the spot while other corpses were recovered from the bush.
According to him, other persons sustained gunshot and machete injuries while houses were set ablaze.
Maisamari also said some of the villagers that escaped into the bush were still missing.
The ADA’s national president added, “They (attackers) invaded the community about 1.00am on Tuesday. Twelve people were killed on the spot. The corpses were recovered from the bush. There are those who sustained injuries. Some houses were razed while some who escaped into the bush are still missing.”
Reacting to the development, the National Public Relations Officer of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, Mr Luka Binniyat, said on Tuesday the union was devastated by the killing and destruction of property.
He said, “The unending cruelty and wanton destruction of lives and property of Southern Kaduna communities continued last night as armed Fulani militia lay siege to Gonan Rogo village, killing 17 persons, critically injured six and rustled cows.
“SOKAPU visited the village today around 12 noon and saw firsthand the horror inflicted on the poor Adara village, 64 km away from Kaduna metropolis on in the Kaduna-Kachia road.
“In total, no fewer than 17 persons were murdered in cold blood for no a Kajuri killing: 15, not 17 people killed in Kajuru – police.
But the Kaduna State Police Command while confirming the story on Tuesday said 15 and not 17 people were killed.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP, Mohammed Jalige, said in statement, “On 12/05/2020 at about 0120hrs, the Command received a distress call through DPO Kajuru that a group of armed men in a large number on motorbikes invaded Gonar Rogo a remote village in Kufana district Kajuru LGA.
“The attackers started shooting sporadically, attacking the villagers and in the process shot and killed 15 persons, and injured five others.”
