…only NEC can suspend me, says embattled chairman
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Uche Secondus has been suspended from the party by his ward in Rivers State.
This is coming barely 24 hours after the PDP, in Andoni local government area of Rivers State, endorsed the suspension of Secondus.
Chairman of the PDP in Ward 5, Christopher George, announced the suspension of Secondus during an extra ordinary meeting of the Ward 5 PDP members on Tuesday in Ikuru town in Andoni local government area of Rivers State.
He said the PDP national chairman was suspended for causing disaffection in the party
Also, seven members of the PDP in the Ward were also suspended alongside the PDP national chairman and a Disciplinary Committee set up to look into their offences.
Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee in Ward 5 Ikuru town, Imie Benson, said the suspension of Secondus could only be lifted by the Ward Executive.
According to Benson,”You can quote me anywhere. Until further notice and until you hear from us, our brother Uche Secondus remains suspended. I reaffirm his suspension”.
Scores of men and women bearing various placards insisted that their son must leave the party and also supported the move by the Rivers State leadership of the PDP to suspend Secondus all together from the party.
The members of Ward 5 PDP expressed their unflinching support for Governor Nyesom Wike and to stand by whatever decision the PDP in the state takes on the Secondus matter.
Recall that on Monday August 30th 2021 Stakeholders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party from Andoni Local Government Area paid a solidarity visit to the state chairman of the party, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, to register their loyalty to the party and declare their support for the suspension of their kinsman and national chairman the party, Secondus.
In a late reaction on Wednesday night, Secondus through his media adviser, Ike Abonyi said those behind the report are bent on destroying the party.
“The media office of Prince Uche Secondus ordinarily should not be responding to every ‘noise’ in the media being engineered by those who set out to distract and destroy the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but it’s our responsibility to guide those who are easily persuaded by news in the media hence this response.
“Such action is a mere wish as Article 59(3) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the constitution states clearly that only the National Executive Committee, NEC of the party can discipline the National Chairman or any other National officer of the party.
“Members of the public and the media should therefore be wary of agents out to distract PDP from the focus of retrieving our beloved country from the irreparable damage already done to it by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,” the statement read.
