Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has concluded plans to conduct by-election for two vacant positions in Giedam Local Government Area’s legislative seats.
Briefing reporters on the preparation of the commission for the elections, the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, announced that the vacancies were created as a result of the death of two legislators from Geidam local Government of the state.
The councillors were Hassan Bukar Mairami, who represented Asheikri ward and Yusuf Mustapha of Hausari Ward.
They died in a ghastly motor accident on Bayamari – Damaturu road on June 4, 2021.
The chairman of the commission noted that “the gaps can only be filled by democratically-elected persons,” adding that, “the government of Yobe State under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni directed us to conduct a bye-election to fill the vacuum”.
According to the time-table released for the bye-election, it will be held on Saturday, October 30.
The commission’s boss called on the political parties to play the game by the rules.
