The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure completion of the Rail Line project before the end of his administration.

The House passed the resolution in a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, at plenary on Tuesday.

The speaker noted that the completion of the projects would ensure a substantial reduction in gridlocks across the state.

He said: “Traffic has become something else and people complain always.

“The project is, thus, aimed at relieving people of the harrowing experiences they face on the roads.

“This is what our people deserve and we are encouraging the governor to do more, particularly on this rail line issue.

“We have been on this matter since the Jakande era. We wish Sanwo-Olu becomes the ‘lucky boy’ that will see to the completion of the rail project.”

The speaker also noted the importance of the Opebi-Ojota bridge project that would be embarked upon by the government.

Obasa commended the governor for also expanding the state’s transportation network through the waterways.

Contributing, Mr. Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa Constituency II, urged the House to continue to do all it takes, including approving the necessary funds, for the state government to complete the Blue and Red Line projects.

Yishawu noted that on average, people in the state spend up to five hours on the roads as a result of gridlocks.

He said that the completion of the lines would reduce such challenges.

“It is only a responsible government that would ensure that such wasted hours are reduced to the barest minimum,” he said.

Collaborating, Mr. Tobun Abiodun, representing Epe I, commended the governor for considering more jetties to expand the waterways transportation.

On his part, Mr. Desmond Elliott, representing Surulere I, described the projects as pointers to the success of the state since 1999.

Elliott commended the speaker and his colleagues for supporting the executive arm to make things happen for the progress of the state.

Also, Mr. Lukeman Olumoh, representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun I, thanked the House for passing the Transportation Reform Sector bill.

He said that it was currently helping the traffic situation of the state.
