Rampaging gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday attacked a police station in Atani, the headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State.
Four Policemen were killed during the attack by the gunmen.
It was gathered that the armed men stormed the area at about 1:30 am and immediately launched an attack on the police facility.
Among the police officers killed was a female police operative who lost their life in the attack.
With the latest attack, it brings to five the number of police stations so far attacked by the unknown gunmen.
Many persons including government facilities in Anambra State were destroyed during the attacks.
The governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has assured that that responsible will not be allowed to continue with their acts.
The state police command has confirmed the attack, corroborating the information provided by our source.
Police Public Relations Officer of the cmand, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said “The hoodlums came around 1 am, and unlucky for us, four police operatives paid the supreme price.”
“The commissioner of police, CP Echeng Echeng on hearing of the attack immediately mobilized men of the command from various units to the area.”
“The hoodlums were still there when the CP personally led men of the command to the affected area, and the timely arrival saved the day and the hoodlums were successfully repelled, and the facility was saved.”
He said, “We have commenced intelligence already, and we hope to unravel the persons behind the attack.”
He was however unable to state the identity of the attackers or the reason for their actions.
