Fear of the unknown has gripped cabinet members as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday gave a 10-day ultimatum to his commissioners to fill out and submit a evaluation form for their ministerial performance.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor directed the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, to issue the forms to the commissioners to determine the retention of performing commissioners and relieve those who underperformed from the state executive council.
The statement reads: “The governor directed the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG) to issue evaluation templates to commissioners who are expected to fill them out and submit them within the next ten days to determine the retention of performing commissioners and relieve those who underperformed from the state executive council.
“The directive was based on a policy of his administration that he made known at the swearing-in of the commissioners to evaluate their performance after every six months to ensure quality service delivery,” it reads.
Meanwhile, the Governor also launched the Kano Integrated Personal and Payroll Information System (KIPPIS) to ensure prudence, transparency, and accountability in managing public funds.
Commenting after his integration as a pioneer enrolee, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said the system was introduced to centralise payments by the state, and local governments and operate e-financing in tandem with global financial practice.
The Governor urged the members of the KIPPIS implementation committee to ensure the capturing of civil servants, pensioners, and all political appointees for smooth and hitch-free running of the project across the State.
While making elucidation on the project, the State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdussalam, said KIPPIS can sanitize payroll and pension systems using biometric technology, and effective validation techniques and it will rid the system of all excesses, infiltration, and manipulations of any ilk, impersonations, and unnecessary deductions.
He added that the incorporated e-payment abilities will save the government unnecessary bank charges and payroll payment problems, block leakages, and engender accountability and transparency in government engagements.
