Iran will completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump follows through with threats to hit Iranian power plants, the country’s Revolutionary Guards said in a statement on Sunday.
“If the United States’ threats regarding Iran’s power plants are carried out… the Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed, and it will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt,” the military’s operational command Khatam Al-Anbiya said in a statement on state television.
As the US-Israel war with Iran enters its fourth week, Trump on Saturday threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s energy infrastructure if Tehran failed to fully reopen the strategic waterway within 48 hours.
These developments suggest the war is taking a dangerous new turn, despite Trump’s remark just a day earlier that he was considering”winding down” military operations against Iran. – DW.
