P-Square destroyed Africa’s biggest music brand, says Daddy Showkey

Veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey has criticised the prolonged conflict between twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, saying it damaged one of Africa’s most-successful music brands.

Daddy Showkey made the remarks during an interview with GoldMyne TV, which began attracting attention online on Sunday.

The music veteran said the significance of P-Square extended beyond the two brothers because fans across Africa helped build the group into a major force.

“P-Square isn’t for them alone,” he said.

According to Daddy Showkey, entertainers must remember the role of their fans when making important decisions about their careers.

He explained that his achievements and longevity as Daddy Showkey were possible because people supported his music over the years.

The singer said celebrating decades in the entertainment industry would mean little without recognising the listeners who made that journey possible.

He accused Peter and Paul of paying more attention to their financial disagreements than the people who supported P-Square throughout its rise.

Daddy Showkey also expressed concern that the continued public exchanges could deepen the division within the Okoye family.

“No matter what, you guys are brothers,” he said.

He urged the twins to find a private space to discuss their differences and reach an understanding.

The singer also warned that refusing to resolve the conflict could affect their children and allow the disagreement to continue into another generation.

Daddy Showkey’s intervention followed another period of public accusations involving Peter, Paul and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who managed P-Square during much of the group’s successful run.

P-Square began its music journey in the late 1990s before gaining national recognition in the early 2000s.

The duo later became one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, building a strong following across Africa through their music, energetic performances and coordinated dance routines.

Their catalogue includes popular songs such as Bizzy Body, Do Me, No One Like You, Personally and Chop My Money.

At the height of their career, the brothers performed across Africa and other parts of the world, winning awards and helping expand the reach of Nigerian pop music.

However, disagreements involving the group’s management, finances and creative direction led to their first major separation in 2017.

Peter continued his solo career as Mr P, while Paul released music under the name Rudeboy.

The brothers reconciled publicly in November 2021, ending a separation that had lasted almost five years.

Their reunion raised hopes among fans that P-Square had returned permanently.

The twins released new music and embarked on performances together after reconciling.

The peace later collapsed as fresh disagreements emerged.

In 2024, Paul confirmed that the group had separated again.

The dispute soon expanded beyond the twins and involved Jude, their former manager.

Peter accused Jude of financial misconduct and raised concerns about royalties, account records and the management of the group’s music catalogue.

Jude denied the allegations and insisted that he did not divert P-Square’s earnings.

The matter later led to an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In February 2025, the commission arraigned Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, on money laundering charges before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Jude pleaded not guilty.

The case remains before the court, and no conviction has been recorded.

The family dispute returned to public attention in August 2026 after Peter released a series of videos presenting his account of the group’s history, financial dealings and repeated break-ups.

Jude responded by rejecting Peter’s claims and saying the financial issues had already been examined during the investigation.

Paul’s management later said the singer would not participate in a public exchange of allegations.

It added that he remained focused on his music and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims.
