The family of the late Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has announced December 17, 2026, for his funeral service and interment.
Fasoranti, a foremost nationalist and respected Yoruba leader, died at his residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday at the age of 100.
In a burial announcement, the Christian wake-keeping service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, at 4:00 p.m. at his residence within the Omolere Nursery and Primary School Compound.
The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, December 17, at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, Ondo State, at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow immediately at the church cemetery.
The family said a reception for guests would take place at the deceased’s residence immediately after the interment.
An outing and thanksgiving service will subsequently be held on Sunday, December 20, at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, at 10:00 a.m.
The statement, signed by Dr Taiwo Fasoranti on behalf of the family, read, “The family of Late Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, CFR, is pleased to announce the burial arrangements of our beloved patriarch, leader of Afenifere and foremost nationalist, who passed away at the age of 100 years.”
According to the statement, the Christian wake-keeping service will hold on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at Fasoranti’s residence, Omolere Nursery and Primary School Compound, Akure.
“Funeral service and interment will hold on Thursday, 17th December, 2026, at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, while interment will follow immediately after the service at the Church Cemetery. Guests will be entertained at his residence immediately after the interment,” it added.
The family also announced that the outing and thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, 20th December, 2026, at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure.
“We request your prayers and presence as we honour the memory of a distinguished elder and patriot,” the statement concluded.
