The Chairman of the Anambra Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Chief Nzemeka Olisa, said on Tuesday that the state had achieved more than 80 per cent target of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Olisa said in Abuja that the success was recorded in the areas of education and others.
“Making reference to my state, Anambra I know we may not have 100 per cent achievement, but I know we have already over 80 percent achievements of the MDGs goal.
“With what is on ground now, with the way the implementation of projects are moving in my state, by the time we do a final push, predominantly the state will achieve the goal, especially with respect to the access to school.
“A lot of work has been done there and it is still on-going. There is improvement in education; a lot has been on ground.
“So I want to believe that there are hopes, apart from my state; Nigeria as a whole will achieve the goal.
“It may not be 100 per cent, but a good percentage is already on ground and any additional effort will improve the projects,’’ he said.
Olisa said that the state government was closely working with the MDGs office to ensure that projects were executed graciously.
He said that local governments were also implementing the programme positively, explaining that “a lot of renovations of schools are on-going’’.
He said that the state was giving more attention to school projects because “education is the key to success’’.
The chairman said that government’s intervention in the education sector was “unparalleled” and had made impact in teaching and learning in all schools in the state.
He gave the assurance that government would continue to provide necessary logistics to promote education and improve its quality across the state.
“The government wants quality education and that is the reason we make sure that we give our state quality education by visiting various schools.
He said government also ensured quality education by procuring and distributing educational materials, improving sporting equipment, prompt payment of matching grants, provision of vehicles and employment of staff.
