Embattled Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, collapsed this morning while giving evidence at the sitting of the Impeachment Panel probing alleged misconduct leveled against him.
According to one of his counsels, Mr. Peter Eze, the Deputy Governor collapsed about 11.35am in the morning after two hours of testifying before the panel and five minutes after the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo and the state Attorney General, Mr. Anthony Ani, SAN, came into the court.
Eze said that Mr. Onyebuchi commenced his evidence at 9.30 am and continued until11.35 am when he suddenly slumped and was rescued by his wife, children and others present at the secret trial holding at the Enugu High Court Complex.
Journalists waiting outside the court hall saw when the Deputy Governor was assisted into his car and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for emergency medical attention in the Enugu metropolis.
His wife and children were seen crying as they quickly boarded their vehicles and drove out of the court premises.
Mr. Eze told our reporter that the proceeding of the panel was stood down till 2pm to enable them get words from his family to determine whether he would continue with his evidence which commenced today.
The Chief of Staff, Mrs. Nwobodo was accompanied to the court by the State Attorney General in response to her summon by the panel to give evidence on some issues which they Deputy Governor considered vital to the determination of the matter before the panel.
The panel is expected to resume sitting later today.
