THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied an online news, which on Thursday linked the minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke and a former Chief of Staff to the President, to a case of oil theft involving the Managing Director of Fenix Impex Limited, Jarret Tenebe.
A statement from the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, described the attributions credited to the reporter’s unnamed EFCC source as shocking, adding that it was against established media protocol at the commission.
According to him, all information emanating from the commission are authenticated by Uwujaren, which was not the case with the said report.
He described the report as false and stated that no minister of Petroleum, past or serving, is linked with the case of oil theft involving Tenebe, who is currently under investigation at the commission.
He decried the alleged attempt by the report to present the commission as a pliable agency susceptible to manipulations by vested interests.
“It is important to state here that no serving or former minister of Petroleum Resources or public figure has been linked to the investigation in question.
“Consequently, the commission dissociates itself from the report in its entirety,” Uwujaren stated.
