Delta State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman, has declared total war against all forms of crime and criminality in the state with a vow to fish out all those involved in recent criminal activities in the state.
Reports said the police boss who was visibly disturbed with recent developments in the state summoned all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to an emergency meeting where he warned that it will no longer be business as usual stating that all hands must be on deck to fight crime in the state. Police sources said CP Alkali who stated that it was now ‘fire for fire’ reportedly advised all officers and men of the force in the state who are not ready to fight the battle with him to find an alternative.
According to sources, the Police boss told his men in unmistable terms that he would not take it easy with any of them found to be lacking in the battle ahead. He admonished those of them heading areas where ugly incidents were recorded and warned that he would not hesitate in dealing with any of them found wanting in his duties. Enjoining them to be more pro-active, CP Alkali directed that no officer should be seen abandoning his area of jurisdiction for any other purpose rather than fighting crime.
Police sources also said that based on this, the Commissioner of Police directed that all officers in the command, no matter their ranks, must be actively involved in both day and night patrols in and around the state. To this end, he has drawn a roaster placing all the top ranking officers including himself on daily and night patrols in the command. He assured all the officers and men of the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police and the state government in providing the needed logistics and manpower to ensure that they perform their duties creditably and called on them to reciprocate the gesture by being at alert all the time.
When contacted on phone, CP Alkali who said he does not like discussing security matters on the pages of newspapers however stated that in the recent attack on a bullion van, no policeman was killed but an actor lost his life. “It’s really very unfortunate but we are making a headway and we have recovered their operational vehicle and the magazines which they abandoned after the operation.” He commended the policemen that fought valiantly to repress the attack and assured that perpertrators of recent crimes in the state must be fished out in no distant time.
He also advised the people of the state to give information to the police in other to help them ensure that there is peace. “Further more, I will also advise all those who go to banks to withdraw money to always be observant and carefull after leaving the bank.”
