Ahead of the 2015 general elections, The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) has expressed worry over the negative utterances of some politicians against the person of President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration as the 2015 general elections draw nearer, saying it was a deliberate attempt to derail the nation’s path to progress.
The NSA, represented by the Director (Policy and Strategy) in his Office, Ambassador Layiwola Lasehinde, issued the warning during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop on “Security consciousness and awareness for Reporters” in both print and electronic media organizations in Abuja and environs.
The event was organized by the Special Services Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to him, ahead of the 2015 elections, there is need for everybody to unite and forge a common front in the interest of the entire country and not in personal interest.
He however, commended the degree of support and encouragement in the fight against terrorism by many Nigerians which, he said, has engendered good result in the fight against all forms of insurgency including the menace of Boko Haram Islamic sect in the North East.
“As we approach the 5th democratic transition period which some western countries claimed could either ‘make’ or ‘mar’ the country, there is compelling need for us, as a people, to understand our differences, unite and forge ahead for the interest of the nation,” he said.
