Premier League defending champions, Kano Pillars, battled to a 2-2 draw against Dolphins in their league match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.

In another fixture, Enyimba beat Nasarawa United 2-0 in Aba.

Pillars took the lead in the 30th minute and scored the second goal in the 47th. But Dolphins got one back in the 67th minute through Godbless Asamoah before scoring the equalising goal in the 79th minute.

Following the draw, Pillars moved to seventh position in the league table on 22 points.

Two goals from Christian Obiozor in the 12th minute and Ifeanyi George in the 52nd minute helped Enyimba to secure their seventh win of the season.

Enyimba are third in the table, while Sunshine Stars, who lost 1-0 to Enugu Rangers, are second in the table.

Wiki Tourists are on top of the table after their 1-0 victory over Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi. They have 27 points from their 14 matches.

In other matches, Lobi Stars beat Abia Warriors 2-0, while the match between Sharks and Heartland ended in a 1-1 draw.

Warri Wolves drew 1-1 with Akwa United, while Bayelsa United beat Kwara United 2-0. Giwa defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 3-1 in their encounter.

Also, a former Nigeria forward, Christian Nwokocha, has said that the decision by the Nigeria Football Federation to investigate claims that Stephen Keshi applied for the vacant Ivory Coast job could affect the Eagles’ 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification chances.

Keshi signed a two-year deal with the NFF in April, but the Ivoirian Football Federation last week listed the Nigeria coach as one of the 60 persons who have applied to replace Frenchman Herve Renard as coach of the Elephants.

However, Keshi has since distanced himself from the job, saying he never applied to coach Ivory Coast.

But the NFF said Keshi would be sanctioned if it was confirmed that he applied for the post.

Nwokocha, who played for the Eagles in the seventies and eighties, backed the federation’s decision to find out if Keshi truly applied for the job or not.

The former Enugu Rangers player said, “The NFF is right. They want to find out if a coach under contract with them is also applying for another job. But the issue should be handled with care.

“They should avoid focusing on it to the extent that it would distract the coach and the team. Keshi’s main job is to get the country a ticket to the next Africa Cup of Nations.

“This is what is more important and he needs support from all quarters to achieve to our target.

“It is a good thing Keshi was forgiven for his failure to lead to Nigeria to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The NFF should encourage him.

“We should make it in a way that after the expiry of his two-year contract we can judge him.” Punch
