Abia State government has concluded arrangement with President Muhammadu Buhari and the nation’s Army to return soldiers at checkpoints in the state.
This is to curb the rising wave of insecurity in the once peaceful state.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Godwin Adindu, stated this in Umuahia on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
He pointed out that the government was determined to ensure that Abia State remained crime-free.
Adindu explained that the military checkpoints would not only be on the major roads and cities, but would be extended to the villages.
Adindu also confirmed that the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, had consultations with Buhari and the GOC, Commanding 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, and had secured the approval of the Army for the redeployment of soldiers to the state.
Adindu however assured that the incidents of insecurity witnessed in the state recently would not repeat as the governor has taken measures to reverse the trend.
The chief press secretary re-emphasized that security of life and property and law and order were top priorities of the new administration, while warning criminals to desist from their act, as the governor would not tolerate crime in the state.
He also warned that insecurity would distract the massive urban renewal exercise taking place in Aba and other centres of the state, adding that the government and the workers need a conducive atmosphere to achieve the objective of rebuilding the metropolitan cities.
