The owner of Daar Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has explained to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission why he collected N2.1 billion from a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.
Dokpesi, according to a statement by his company on Wednesday, admitted to collecting the money when he was questioned by operatives of the EFCC, who are of the opinion that he was a part of the group that fleeced Nigeria of $2.9 billion in a suspected arms deal.
Dokpesi said the money he collected from Dasuki was for publicity on his television and radio stations, African Independent Television and Ray Power FM.
Dokpesi is reportedly still owing some categories of staff of the company up to 10 months’ salary.
According to the statement, Daar Communications said its chairman was invited by the EFCC to “shed more light on some payments that were made to him through the office of the erstwhile National Security Adviser to the former President, Malam Sambo Dasuki.
“Dokpesi explained to the EFCC officials that the N2.1 billion that he collected from the former NSA was payment for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 General Elections.”
The company said the contract for which Dokpesi was paid the N2.1 billion was “dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship.”
As at press time, Dokpesi was yet to be released from the custody of the EFCC.
