Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has assured the state workforce of his administration’s determination not to down size it, irrespective of the paucity of funds occasioned by the prevailing
economic meltdown in the country.
The governor gave the assurance in an address when he visited the State Water Corporation office.
Governor Ugwuanyi added that government would continue to pay because that is the only way to motivate the civil servants and reactivate the economy of Enugu.
“Irrespective of the harsh situation in the state and the country at large, the government of Enugu state will continue to identify with the pains and suffering of the workforce,” he said.
Governor Ugwuanyi also released the sum of One hundred million naira (N100,000,000) to the State Water Corporation to enable it reactivate its equipment to ensure steady water supply in the state.
He added that his administration would continue to provide enabling environment for organizations and people to enable them contribute their quota towards the development of the state.
Earlier in a speech, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Barr. Charles Egumgbe noted that the state government would soon restore the past glory of the State Water Corporation.
He noted that Governor Ugwuanyi was in the office of the water corporation to interface with
the management and staff of the organization which would enable him strategize on how to reactivate the corporation.
In a brief remark, the chairman of the corporation, Mr. Gabriel Attama called on Governor Ugwuanyi to come to the aid of the pensioners of the corporation whose pension were not paid since
February 2015.
He requested the governor to consider absorbing the staff of the corporation into the state civil service to alleviate the problems of the staff of the corporation.
The governor was accompanied in the visit by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, some leadership of the State House of Assembly and other top government officials.
