Ogun State Police Command yesterday paraded a fleeing suspected Boko-Haram member, Umaru Muktar, 22, a native of Gonge , Maiduguri, Borno State.
The State Police Commissioner, AbdulMajid Ali who paraded the suspect among other seven criminals at the headquarters of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Abeokuta told journalists that Muktar, arrested on Thursday, February 25 at Kara in Mowe area of the state has confessed to his membership of the terror sect.
He said interrogation revealed that Muktar, who fled Maiduguri over two years ago, was initiated into the sect by one of his friends, simply identified as Mustapha.
Ali told journalists that exchange of intelligence report between his command and its Borno counterpart as well as support from the Hausa community in Kara aided the suspect’s identification and apprehension.
But Muktar who spoke to journalists in Hausa later in an interview denied being a member of Boko-haram but admitted knowing few members that fled Maiduguri when security agencies increased pressure on the sect.
Also paraded were six suspected kidnappers: Lucky Oba, 23; Saheed Bilesanmmi, 26; Lucky Peter, 29; Seun Oladimeji, 36; Miami Godwin and Segun Arigidi 33.
They allegedly masterminded the kidnapping of 87 year-old Chief Imam of Atan, Ijebu Ode, Rabiu Modiu.
The suspects succeeded in collecting a ransom of N4 million from the victim’s son before police arrested them.
The command also paraded 52-year old, Edet Umoren for killing a 10 year old granddaughter of Favour Nursery and Primary School Proprietor, Precious Adedeji.
The suspect who is a teacher in the school, revealed that he killed the victim because her grandfather, Joseph Otiloye who is the school’s proprietor owed him unpaid salary of N8,000.
