Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has said he has no plans to impose candidates.

Chime spoke in Enugu on Saturday at the meeting of the State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We will not impose any candidate for elections in 2015 because the idea of imposition will not work.

“I hope that we shall come together and endorse one of our own and that person, whosoever he is, when presented, will be acceptable by the people.

“We cannot achieve that without sacrifices because we all cannot be governors.

“People should talk to themselves and make sacrifices in the interest of peace and unity of the party and the state,’’ he said.

Chime assured the party faithful that the committee would be meeting every month in order to take decisions collectively.

The governor , however, stressed the need for all members to work together, warning that the party would no longer tolerate unilateral decisions.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Chief Vita Abba, said that regular meetings of the committee had become necessary in view of the approaching elections.

Abba stressed the need for party members to play the game by the rules and eschew violence in order to win future elections.

He said the governor remained the leader of the party in the state just as President Goodluck Jonathan remained the national leader of the party.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the committee passed a vote of confidence on Jonathan and Chime for their visionary leadership.

The party expressed dismay at the “utterances and unconstitutional actions” of some individuals in the state and aimed at causing “disaffection.’’

It ratified the appointment of Mr Isaac Nwoye as the new chairman of the party in Udi Local Government Area following the suspension of the former, Uche Ogbodo over breach of party’s constitution..

The party also ratified the timetable for meetings of the organs of the party.

The meeting was attended by the state’s Deputy Governor, Mr Sunday Onyebuchi, the Speaker of the state Assembly, Mr Eugene Odo, Sen. Ayogu Eze and the member representing Nsukka Udenu Federal Constituency, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Other dignitaries were the former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, former state Chairman of the party, Chief Charles Egumgbe and the state Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Cornelius Nnaji.
