Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has directed the state accountant general to immediately pay all retired civil servants in the state their 2014 gratuity.
He said he was doing this in the spirit of the Labour Day celebration as well as his resolve to ensure labour peace and well-being of workers.
He gave the directive when he led labour leaders and the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, to inspect some of his projects in Calabar.
The governor also donated N50 million to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for the completion of the Labour House in Calabar.
He said: “We have already finalised and I have just signed today an authorisation for them to commence the implementation of 2014 gratuity.”
