The All Progressives Congress (APC) was on Sunday declared the winner of all the 27 chairmanship seats in an election conducted on Saturday in Imo State.
The ruling party equally won 636 out of the 645 councillorship positions in the state.
Announcing the results of the polls in Owerri on Sunday, the Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, Ethelbert Ibebuchi, said that 13 political parties fielded candidates in the election.
Ibebuchi, who announced that elections were cancelled in four wards in four Local Government Areas in Oguta, Isu, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Aboh Mbaise, because of electoral violence, said the Accord Party, Rebuild Nigeria Party, Kowa Party and People’s Redemption Party won four councillorship seats.
Speaking before announcing the results, Ibebuchi, stated, “22 political parties invited ISIEC to observe their primary elections. 13 political parties fielded candidates in this electoral process.”
The Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressive Grand Alliance and United Progressive Party did not take part in the poll.
The state governor, Rochas Okorocha, said he was satisfied with the conduct of the election.
He said that the electoral umpire had demonstrated capacity.
