How Buhari-led FEC caused Senate crisis – Saraki

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has attributed lack of experience by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal executive council (FEC) to the crisis rocking the Nigerian Senate.

Saraki made this known on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of Ebonyi State Government House in Abakaliki where he was received by the state governor, Engr. David Umahi and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said the division under President Buhari-led government has never been witnessed in the country since independence.

He appealed to the state PDP’s delegates to vote for him to enable him fly the party’s presidential flag in the forthcoming party primaries.

He assured that if elected as president would, he address the problem of unemployment and insecurity ravaging the nation and restructure the nation.

“Today, we are at a crossroad trying to unite this country; we’re at a time we take important decision for the future of this country.

“Having served as governor for eight years and now as Senate President where l equally provides leadership for the people, l have shown capacity. The cause of the problem that we are having at the Senate is because members of the federal executive council lack experience; they forget that the Executives and the Senate must work together.

“You all know that this country have never been divided like this before; you all know that security challenges is very high; you all know the issue of inclusion, you all know the challenges of freedom, injustice, and the inability to express our constitutional rights,” he said.

The Senate President noted that “the only way to get it right is when we utilize the opportunity of 2019 elections and vote for leaders with the capacity to lead the nation.”

Saraki, who was also seeking the support of the people of South East, promised to create enabling environment for business to strive in the region, if elected president in 2019.

He congratulated Governor Umahi on his excellent performance in the state which led to his endorsement for a second term by the state PDP stakeholders. He also seized the opportunity to request for similar endorsement by the Ebonyi state delegates to the PDP national convention.

In his remark, Governor Umahi, praised the Senate President for his achievements as eight year Governor of Kwara State and President of the Senate since 2015. He noted that unite of the nation is paramount.

He affirmed that from Saraki’s eloquent and excellent delivery before his host, they would seriously consider his request for the endorsement of his candidacy by the state delegates to the PDP’s National Convention.

Saraki was received by party loyalists and supporters in Ebonyi State. Those present at the event include Governor Umahi, his Deputy, Barr. Eric Kelechi, former Governor of the State, Senator Sam Egwu, Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, PDP state chairman, among other stakeholders. – Tribune.
