A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, on Friday joined other chieftains of the party to solicit votes for the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The development came barely a day after Senate President Bukola Saraki settled the crisis between Adeleke and Ogunbiyi, who came second in the PDP governorship primary.
Also on the campaign train was a businessman and elder brother of the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Deji Adeleke.
Deji, who has always avoided public glare, led his brother and his supporters to Ileogbo, the headquarters of the Ayedire Local Government Area, which is the hometown of Ogunbiyi and started the campaign despite the rain.
A former PDP Chairman in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, while addressing the crowd at the rally held in front of Ogunbiyi’s residence, commended Deji for his efforts towards resolving the crisis.
Olaoluwa said, “Those in Ogunbiyi’s and Adeleke’s camps have all become one now. Primary elections are always acrimonious, but we thank God that this acrimony is over. We are now facing the real election.
“We thank God that the crisis is over now. The APC thought the crisis would scatter our party, but all their trips to Cuba and everything they buried in the ground have been destroyed.”
Olaoluwa commended other party chieftains – including Peter Babalola, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun, Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Erelu Olusola Obada – for the roles they played in reconciling Ogunbiyi and Adeleke. – Punch.
