The election petitions tribunal in Kwara State has so far received two petitions over the just-concluded governorship election in the state.
The tribunal also said it received only one petition on the state House of Assembly election in the state.
Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital, on Tuesday, the tribunal’s secretary, Adamu Aliyu, said the governorship election petitioners were challenging the qualification of the governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aliyu, said one of the two governorship petitions was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Razak Atunwa, while the other one was filed by the Action Alliance (AA).
The PDP, in its petition, claimed that the governor-elect, at the time of the election, was not qualified to contest the election.
The petition also alleged that the governor-elect submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission an affidavit containing false information.
In its own petition before the tribunal, in which the APC and INEC were joined as respondents, the AA said that the governor-elect was not duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast during the election.
The petition said the election of Abdulrazaq was invalid by reasons of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.
