The South West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday faulted the decision of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to create 19 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) describing it as a misplaced priority.
The opposition party said the Fayemi-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration had held the state down since it assumed power in October 2018.
It urged its members in the state to unite ahead of the 2022 governorship election to ensure victory.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘Ekiti LCDAs: Why PDP leaders must unite to rescue the state from APC administration In 2022 – S’West PDP’, which was signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, in Ado Ekiti.
Atofarati said, “The creation of LCDAs is a misplaced priority. Does Ekiti State have the financial capacity to finance additional 19 LCDAs when the 16 legal councils are underfunded and struggling to survive? We see it is an avenue to steal state resources and another opportunity to further impoverish the people to finance the new councils.
“Unfortunately, Ekiti State has remained where it was in 2018 when Fayemi took over from PDP-led government.
In response, the APC Zonal Publicity Secretary, Karounwi Oladapo, dismissed the PDP statement.
He said Fayemi had laid the foundation for APC’s victory in the 2022 election with visible landmark and legacy projects and programmes across all parts of the state.
Oladapo, also invited the opposition party to visit Ekiti State and stop denying themselves the opportunity of enjoying good and quality governance.
