Tragedy has hit the Ebonyi State police command as three policemen have been shot dead by unknown gunmen, at a checkpoint along Enugu-Abakiliki express road in the State.
It was gathered that the three policemen have gunned down about 10 pm, on Monday, in front of a police station located at the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the three officers as they mounted a roadblock in front of the station.
The bodies of the dead policemen have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakiliki.
The Police Public Relations Officer, in the state, Mrs. Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
Mrs Odah, said she could not give details of the casualty figures until a visit to the scene of the incident.
