Former secretary to Ekiti State Government, Abiodun Oyebanji has been sworn in as the Executive Governor of the state.
Oyebanji was sworn in by the state’s chief judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye at the state government house in Ekiti.
He immediately announced the freezing of government accounts.
Oyebode, in a statement by the Head of Service, Bamidele Agbede, on Sunday titled “Freezing of state government accounts”, said the governor had also frozen the accounts of the state government with immediate effect.
The CPS said, “All accounting officers and financial institutions are urged to comply with this directive”.
In another statement titled, ‘Appointment of CPS, the governor retained Yinka Oyebode as his Chief Press Secretary (CPS)
Oyebode was the CPS to the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, during his first and second terms.
“The appointment takes immediate effect”, the statement said.
The governor has also appointed an academic, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, as the Secretary to the State Government.
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, joined his colleagues, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu from Ondo State, for the inauguration.
Among the dignitaries at the inauguration were the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu; three former governors of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Ayodele Fayose, and Adeniyi Adebayo, who is the current Minister of Trade; former Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin; and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, and Abayomi Olonisakin.
Others included Governors Babajide Sanwoolu (Lagos), Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi) and Simon Lalong (Plateau), Zamfara State former governor, Abdulazeez Yari; Osun State Deputy Governor, Gboyega Alabi and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.
The former Head of Service (HOS) of Ekiti State and a Commissioner in the National Population Commission, Deji Ajayi welcomed dignitaries to the inauguration.
He noted that Ekiti State had produced great men and women across all spheres of human endeavour.
“This is the first time in the history of Ekiti State that a party will win an election back-to-back. Today, we are witnessing the swearing in of a new governor that will pilot the affairs of the State for the next four years.”
Former governor of Ekiti State Dr. Kayode Fayemi handed over the pen of authority to the new Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji before the Chief Judge of the State, Ayodeji Daramola administered the oath of office.
