Nigeria Police Launches Special Intervention Squad To Tackle Kidnapping

Police probe Lagos lovers’ death inside vehicle

The Nigeria Police has launched a Special Intervention Squad, SIS to combat Kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country especially in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun who inaugurated the Squad said it composed of specially trained, well equipped and highly mobile police officers, and possesses the capacity for rapid intervention and effective containment of significant security breaches, such as those currently threatening the suburb of the FCT and creating panic generally.

He said; “the initiative is not just born out of necessity, but out of foresight, diligent planning and commitment to enhancing the already robust security architecture of our nation’s capital.

“The FCT remains a bastion of safety and an example of efficient urban security management. However, in our pursuit of excellence, we must proactively address even the slightest signs of potential threats. We are thus duty-bound to confront all challenges head-on to protect the lives and welfare of our citizens.”

The Police Chief said that “the Squad is envisioned to include a thousand personnel in each state, the SIS is launched with officers and men from each tactical unit of the Force, supplemented by a formidable arsenal of operational assets, including sophisticated arms, drones, and vehicles…These assets, some of which are displayed are ready for deployment to counteract the security threats.”

“The deployment symbolises unwavering commitment to the safety and security of people, sending a clear message that criminal elements will find no sanctuary within the FCT, and by extension, Nigeria.”

Mr. Egbetokun reiterated that “the operation is more than a mere response; it is a bold strategy aimed at dismantling the criminal networks entrenched in most of the communities.”

He said; “We recognise the challenges before us and are cognisant that the journey ahead is arduous. However, it is with unwavering resolve that we embark on this mission, driven by a shared responsibility to restore peace and order to all troubled communities across the nation.”

“The SIS will also engage in community-oriented policing, a testament to our philosophy that public safety is a collaborative endeavour. By working hand-in-hand with community leaders, residents, and all stakeholders, we aim to fortify the already strong bonds between the Police Force and the communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a safe haven for its inhabitants,” the Police boss said.

The IGP further said that the show of Force is a declaration of commitment to reclaiming the streets, neighbourhoods, and cities from the clutches of lawlessness.

Mr. Egbetokun assured all citizens of Nigeria that the operation is not a mere symbolic act but a tangible demonstration and dedication to secure lives and Properties.

He said; “This operation is intended to bring a swift and decisive end to this era of terror. It should also be noted that the Police collaborating with the military and other security agencies in ensuring success.

“The inaugurate of the Special Intervention Squad, SIS, in the FCT, let us unite against the forces threatening the very fabric of our society. May this operation serve as a beacon of hope as we collectively strive to make the FCT, its environs, and ultimately the entire nation, safer for all. May justice be swift, and may peace permeate the entire landscape of Nigeria.”

“The Police Management seeks the support and collaboration of all citizens, as the SIS begins its operations, let it stand as a symbol of collective dedication to a safe and secure Federal Capital Territory, a place where peace and order are not just aspirations, but realities,” he added. VON
