The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has inaugurated its newly elected 13-member national executive and launched its “The Migrant Magazine’’ which is a significant milestone for the Nigerian community in that country.

The events were held under the theme “Uniting Nigerians in South Africa’’, on Sunday at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg on Sunday.

The President of the union, Mr Smart Nwobi, a lawyer, in his inaugural address emphasised NUSA’s unwavering commitment to being the voice of all Nigerians living in South Africa.

“This administration is dedicated to promoting unity among our diverse Nigerian community in South Africa,’’ said Nwobi in a statement by Akindele Olunloyo, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine and National Publicity Secretary of NUSA.

“We will focus on supporting growth in trade and commerce while fostering stronger relationships between Nigerians and South Africans.’’

Nwobi shared insights on the publication’s mission, saying the magazine was launched to bridge Nigerian migrants’ heritage with their South African presence, thereby creating space for dialogue and community building.

“It documents our migrant experiences with dignity and authenticity’’.

Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa (OON), Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in her goodwill message to the event, noted that various opportunities abound for Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to national development in their country.

Dabiri-Erewa, was represented at the event by Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, the commission’s Secretary,

The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries and community leaders from across South Africa, underscoring the rising influence and importance of NUSA in South Africa’s socio-political landscape.

NUSA was established in 2008 as a not-for-profit association dedicated to representing the interests of Nigerians in South Africa.

The organisation, the apex body of Nigerians in South Africa, operates across all nine provinces of South Africa and focuses on building a thriving community that promotes and supports its members’ strengths positively.

The new leadership is expected to continue NUSA’s tradition of providing legal support, advocacy, educational opportunities, and cultural promotion for Nigerians living in South Africa.

The inauguration represents a pivotal moment in NUSA’s journey to strengthen the bonds within the Nigerian community and amplify the voices of Nigerian migrants in South Africa.
