The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to Abia Central Senatorial District.
The party announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, saying the move was aimed at promoting equity, justice, and fairness within the party.
According to the statement, the zoning arrangement is intended to guide members and prospective aspirants in the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
The statement read, “This is to notify our esteemed members and the general public in Abia State that the All Progressives Congress in Abia State has zoned its governorship ticket for the forthcoming election to Abia Central Senatorial District.
“This notice serves to guide our members and intending aspirants in the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.”
The party said the decision was in line with its commitment to balanced representation across the three senatorial districts of the state.
It added that since the return of democracy in 1999, Abia State has operated an informal rotation arrangement among the three zones to promote unity and inclusiveness.
“The decision is further premised on the fact that the state chairman of the party hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state.
“It is therefore just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform,” the statement added.
The APC, therefore, urged aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect the decision in the spirit of sportsmanship and unity ahead of the election.
The development is expected to affect potential aspirants from Abia North, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who is from the zone.
Efforts to get reactions from the State Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, and Kalu were unsuccessful as of press time.
