A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and traditional chief in Ihembosi community in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State, General Godfrey Anyaogu (Rtd), has commended President Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Bianca Ojukwu as Minister of Foreign Affairs, describing the decision as well-deserved amid calls to address marginalisation of the South East.
In a statement released to journalists in his Abuja residence, the retired Army General congratulated Bianca Ojukwu on the appointment and wished her a successful tenure in office.
He urged the new minister to use her office for the good of the people, adding that her late husband would be proud of her achievements.
“Her appointment is commendable following the timely call for equity in Tinubu’s appointments. This is what we have been talking about in Igbo Heroes and Icons Foundation,” Anyaogu reiterared.
The APC chieftain said the move was long expected to tackle the marginalisation of Ndigbo in Nigeria.
He reiterated the South East region’s stance that it should produce the country’s next president.
The Army General noted that while many Nigerians possessed strong credentials, few had been given the platform to lead, compared to the Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba ethnic groups that have dominated the presidency and vice presidency since the Fourth Republic began.
Gen. Anyaogu cited Prof. Humphrey Nwosu’s conduct of the June 12, 1993 election, widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest poll and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s global exploits as examples of Igbo excellence in leadership.
“Considering the limited opportunities they have been allowed to handle, the South Easterners have shown brilliance, uprightness and steadfast upholding of good principles and integrity,” he added.
The APC Chieftain expressed confidence that under Ojukwu’s leadership, Nigeria’s foreign policy would see renewed vigour, strategic engagement and enhanced global representation.
In his final remark, Mr. Anyaogu saluted President Tinubu’s steadfast commitments, unbiased, equitable ministerial selections and appointments.
He also felicitated with his brother and friend, the new Inspector-General of Police ( IGP), Tunji Disu, on his appointment and efforts towards improving the Police Force.
In the same vein, the APC Chieftain saluted His Excellency Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, for his leadership qualities, praying for wisdom to enable him lead the state in the right path.
