Unity Bank Plc has been re-certified for the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Certification, a global information security standard to help mitigate card-related frauds.
The re-certification lends credence to the bank’s sustained commitment to secured banking on standardised ICT technological platforms and solutions to customers.
The PCIDSS is a worldwide information security standard defined by the International Payment Industry Security Standards Council to help prevent card-related frauds through increased controls around data and its exposure to compromise.
Receiving the renewed certificate in Abuja on behalf of the bank’s Managing Director, Mr Henry James Semenitari, from Dr. Abiola Abiola of NetHost Legislation Limited, a PCI certification consultancy, the Executive Director, Corporate and Commercial Banking, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Bello, said the recognition for the second year running demonstrated the bank’s uncompromising commitment to ensuring security for all its customers’ funds and transactions at all times.
Certification to PCIDSS is motivated by the need to give security to cardholder data as it has become an important medium in carrying out transactions by customers.
He said: “As a bank with strong focus on retail banking, card payment and other forms of e-payment we are constantly working to raise the bar of our service delivery standards at all times, even without the prompting of the regulatory authorities.
“We are committed to ensuring the highest level of compliance with global best practices to protect our customers from hazards of banking services.”
In his remarks, the Executive Director, Retail Banking, Ahmed Yusuf, said the re-certification was to assure the bank’s customers that they protected not only by Nigerian standard but by international standards.
According to him:“This certification is telling our customers that we are protected and they are protected. If they do business with Unity Bank, any card business they do with Unity Bank, payment systems, they are protected. We at Unity Bank have pride ourselves in ensuring that we meet those standards. We met them last year, we are meeting them this year and we will continue to meet them by the grace of God.”
He said the PCI DSS re-certification means that the bank’s customers are secured in terms of service delivery stressing “it means that all the portals we deploy for customers to do self services are protected. You can go to any of our ATMs, any of our PoS, all our terminals are PCI compliant. It means our customers can do business faster and secured”.
