Jigawa State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state government have dissociated themselves from the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2015 general election on the platform of the party.
Addressing newsmen in Dutse, the state capital, the state deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud said they were not part of the decision, “we didn’t know the content of the communique read after the Sunday PDP north west zonal meeting at Kaduna.
“We the government and the people of this state (Jigawa) are not in any way in support with the content the of the communique read after the Kaduna PDP north west zonal meeting in Kaduna where they announced the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest presidential position under the party in 2015 general election.”
Alhaji Mahmud stated that the government and the members of the party in the state, remained members of the party and loyal to the party.
He noted that: “the government (of Jigawa) and the people remain loyal to the party and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we are still members and remained loyal to the party and country.”
The deputy governor who represented Governor Sule Lamido at the meeting, however, denied any knowledge where the issue discussed, before arriving at a decision.
Mahmud stated further that: “everyone knew the role Governor Sule Lamido and theJigawa state government played when it canvassed support and votes for President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 election, which made him to win and occupy the presidential seat, but to our greatest dismay Jonathan never fulfiled any of the promises made to the people in the state.”
