The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has canceled the endorsement of candidates by officials of the party for the 2015 general elections at its state chapters.

In a statement issued by Prof. Wale Oladipo, the PDP National Secretary, the decision was reached at the NWC meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that some elected officers of the party at the state level, had continued to engage in processes aimed at endorsing candidates for the 2015 general elections.

This, he said, was in spite of warnings from the party’s national leadership that as unbiased umpires, party officials should not be involved in such practice.

He, however, added that the party’s NWC would not hesitate to protect party members “who in any way stand to be shortchanged, cheated or victimised by such endorsements”.

The party scribe said that the PDP would conduct primaries to duly elect its flag bearers in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party`s constitution.

He charged members and supporters to disregard all such endorsements, adding that the party would not hesitate to sanction erring officers or chapters involved in such practice.

This, he said, was the final warning, stressing that the sanctity of the party`s nomination processes must be protected at all times.

He assured party members that a level-playing ground would be provided for all aspirants intending to participate in the nomination processes

This is double standard of the highest order. When PDP endorsed the President, where was the electoral act, party constitution, sanctity of party primaries and level playing field? I guess someone is trying to tinker with the “understanding” the President had with the Governors. That’s politics.

What’s wrong with Nigerian politicians? What’s wrong with these guys who do not want to ever leave power? Three time senator wants to go back or become governor? When will be the turn of his children? This is crazy. What of his term as SSG? COF? etc. I believe something is basically wrong with the black gene….

You have not seen anything yet. Did you read that some people use local government as ATM? This same person was Chief press secretary but abandoned his mentor when the mentor lost out. Became Commissioner for Information from where he ascended to Senate but voted against his mentor in the hallowed chamber when the tide changed. Today, he wants to turn the whole country up side down because of his ambition to remain relevant including influencing the NEC of “chop I chop” party.
What does he need this power for? Personal aggrandizement; intimidation of neighbours, amazing of stupendous wealth, retention of political relevance, impoverishment of the masses. Let’s keep our eyes wide open!

    Alice, maje leke.
I think that NEC of PDP should simply apply the same standards if they don’t want to remain the laughing stock which they have already become. There are no two party constitutions, no two electoral acts etc. What I think is that the handlers are their own worst enemies. They are taking the electorate for a ride because they know votes don’t count. They apply one rule to the pay master and another to the labourer. what of the seized $15m? What of hobnobbing with militants? What of missing $20b? What of attempted removal of opposition governors through impeachment? The list is endless.
Now they are on an implosion cause. They are on self destruction ride, that’s the impact of double standards.
