Two members of a five-man committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to monitor the 2014 ad hoc ward congresses in Ogun State have described the exercise as successful.
This was contained in a report written to the national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, through the office of the National Organising Secretary.
According to the report, the committee was headed by Dr Saka Balogun, with Chief Eddy Aban, Mr Chinwe Mbakwen, Alhaji Mohammed Menaga as members and Okey Aduradu as secretary.
The report indicated that Alhaji Menaga was absent from the assignment.
It also had it that the chairman refused to participate in the exercise, because of the refusal by Aduradu and Aban to admit non-accredited delegates and late submission of forms brought for submission in favour of a governorship aspirant, Honourable Dimeji Bankole.
Adurada and Aban in the report jointly signed, said they refused to accept the over 700 delegate forms and result sheets, brought in at about 12 noon, midway to the congresses.
The duo claimed that this was against the directive of the national body, which emphasised that all completed forms must be submitted latest by midnight of Thursday, November 30.
“The chairman, Dr Balogun, refused to participate in the assignment, but rather insisted on the admission of non-accredited delegates and submission of late forms brought in favour of Honourable Bankole, whom he openly boasted, at the dismay of all present, is his son and whose father he claimed is his best friend,” the report read.
It added that “sequel to the relevant laws of our great party, the 2014 ward congresses in Ogun State was successfully conducted and monitored by INEC and security agencies, as per attached results obtained across the 236 electoral wards of the state.
“We hereby submit that it was generally peaceful and there was no contention.” Nigerian Tribune
