About N1billion was spent on the 2013 National Qur’anic Memorisation Competition organised by the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto and hosted by the Zamfara State government.
The executive secretary of the State Qur’anic Memorisation Board, Mallam Hadi Sulaiman made the disclosure at an interactive session between Governor Yari and heads of Shariah establishments in the state.
Mallam Sulaiman explained that while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia spent about N50million to host a similar programme, Zamfara under Governor Abdulaziz Yari committed so much to facilitate the Qur’anic recitation competition last year.
Giving the breakdown of the expenses, Sulaiman disclosed that the governor donated 60 cars and 60 Hajj seats to the winners of various categories of the competition across all the 36 states of the federation and FCT.
According to him, it is on record that since the inception of civil rule in 1999, no administration in the whole country has rendered as much support to the programme as Zamfara under the care of Governor Yari, adding that during the just-concluded Ramadan, the governor approved the deployment of 1,000 Qur’anic Memorisers to lead the night prayers in all the districts that make up the 17 Emirate Councils in the state.

Hahahaha, some children are still on the streets begging and cannot go to school.
